REIKI: Is it the right time, place and season for you?

Reiki6Reiki is a Japanese word translated as ‘spiritual energy’.  The word ‘Reiki’ has become synonymous with a system of healing which has entered the mainstream of Western life.  You’ve all heard of it – many of you have taken one or more levels in the various lineages.

As you begin another year, perhaps it is time to open your heart and your life to this spiritual path.  Yes, Reiki is a spiritual life path, a way to heal not only others but oneself.  It is a beautiful, powerful yet simple path, a way of living in harmony with Heaven, Earth, and your Connection to all that exists.

Linda and Rick have studied several different Reiki “lineages”.  A lineage is a way to trace one’s certification back through individual teachers to the founder of Reiki, Usui Mikao.   The deeper one goes into the study and practice of Reiki, the more understanding surfaces for us to realize that the lineage is one of spirit, of an internal knowing that you are connected to the teachings and the jumon (mantras) and shirushi (symbols), and how these have been put together to show us the way to enlightenment.

In order to be an effective “healer”, one must first work with healing Reiki8one’s own life.  This is the most important thing you need to know!  In Shoden (Level 1 of the system of Reiki that we teach), you will open the door to a way of empowering yourself to create serenity in your daily life, through ancient practices of breath work and meditation.  You will experience your own life force and how this can be concentrated in your hands to offer hands-on healing treatments to yourself and others.  You will learn about the Japanese energy centers of the body and how they relate to wholeness and balance.  You will meditate upon the Reiki Precepts, the core of the teachings and the “secret” to happiness.  And, you will receive four Reiju (attunements, or spiritual blessings) to assist and support you as you move into these beginning understandings.

Reiki5After you have been practicing the Shoden level techniques for awhile, you may consider the next level of study.  In Okuden (Level 2), you will focus more deeply on your self-healing.  Tools will be offered and practiced that will awaken and resonate with your energy centers to promote spiritual growth and well-being.  These include the jumon (mantras), which are chanted aloud, and three of the four shirushi (symbols).  These practices are some of the most profound you will EVER come across, and they effect rapid progress on your personal journey.   You’ll also learn the deeper meaning of “distant” healing and practice that technique, and receive two more Reiju.

The practices of Okuden are imperative to attaining the wisdom and clarity necessary for the final level, called Shinpiden.  Therefore your teachers will remain available to you for the time necessary for you to progress through the Shoden and Okuden practices and master them.  We’ll be offering Reiki practice nights that are different from what you may usually encounter, because we will be doing the meditative work and jumon chanting as well as the hands-on treatments.  We will also offer individual guidance and counseling by appointment.

We are offering both Shoden and Okuden in the current calendar, and we encourage any of you who have been considering Reiki training, as well as any who have studied in different lineages, to give yourself this opportunity to connect with ancient Japanese teachings that are still so impactful and relevant to our Western society today.

When the time is right, we will offer the Shinpiden training on an as-needed basis to those of our students who have committed to this path.  Shinpiden takes you deeper into the mysteries of the teachings.  You will receive the final shirushi and jumon, and learn how to do reiju.  You’ll also receive outlines for that time when you feel you are ready to begin teaching this system.  Shinpiden is an invitation to becoming all that you can be – the embodiment of Reiki – for the benefit of yourself and those you touch during your everyday life.

Earth, Heaven, Connection, and Emptiness:
The Mystic Path of Evolution

Spiritual seekers like yourself constantly come across references to the cultural teachings of old: the Yogis, the Native Americans, the Japanese, Aboriginals from Australia or Brazil, the Celts, The Tibetans, the Hawaiians – and many more.  Understand – there is a reason these teachings are continuously being placed under our noses!  They are opportunities for us to connect with Truth.  Pay attention!

KauaiThe sages of all cultures took the time to observe the world they were living in.  They paid attention to nature – the growth of a seed, the ripple of the winds, the power of the ocean – the processes so reflective of the human condition.  They saw the patterns that teach us about our own habits and urges.  In looking with wonder at the natural world, they would also find the wisdom of all the ancestral knowledge that we carry in this Earth life, whether instinctual, genetic, or learned.  This is our pool of talents, proclivities, and challenges.  This is Earth energy.

They would watch the stars and the planets and the sun and the moon, noticing the seasons and their conjunction with the skies, noticing how the heavenly bodies show us the right times for performing our earthly activities such as planting, fishing, harvesting, even praying.  In wonder at such perfection, they looked for the Creator of all they perceived.  They reached for this through prayer and ritual, fulfilling the human need to search for the reason for living, to assign meaning to our existence.  As the sages experienced this sense of reverence and communication, they understood that what is below is also above.  This is Heaven energy. Their inherent psychic abilities were activated.

Continuing on the mystical journey, they studied how these two dualities of Earth and Heaven flow through our lives.  Dark and light.  Male and female.  “Good” and “evil”.  The concept of cycles emerged, the clarity that all things go through these cycles, that the cycles themselves are universal movements.  Oh!  Everything is doing the same dance!  The two polarities cannot exist without one another.  Ahhhh. The interconnection of all things, this universal tapestry of creation, dissolution, and energy, would suddenly come clear.  They would realize that not one thing can be touched, moved, or even thought about, without all else being impacted.  This is the energy of Connection, of the Oneness of the Universe.

The sages finally realized that they must now look within.  As they became more familiar with the nature of their minds, they would place themselves into states of consciousness in order to deepen their knowledge, and one day, they would experience a state that was unknown to them before.  They would touch upon the energy of Emptiness.  The experience would leave them in awe, would give them the first glimmerings of remembering who and what they truly are, who and what ALL of us truly are.  With this came the sure knowledge of the path and their duty to teach it, and hence was born the Way of the Mystic.

These sages, these mystics, were respected and known to be the wiseHands ones of all traditions.  And they existed in all cultures.  How powerful is that understanding – that humanity was MEANT to have this wisdom, that people were born all across the planet, geographically separated, who would step up, study, and realize that they must teach others about their findings.  Unfortunately, with the season of organized religion in the intellectual age of mankind, the mystics were often persecuted.  Many went into hiding.

But truth cannot be changed.  Always, wisdom comes forth via this true path.  And the Old Ways are showing themselves once again, because Humanity is in need.   Those who kept safe and sacred the mystic esoteric knowledge that we need to evolve, have again stepped forward, hands open, offering to those who are seeking.

Rick (Pono) and I have been privileged to receive such teachings within the Hawaiian culture.  The teachers state that their knowledge is 10,000 years old.  These teachings are not modern New Age ideas, they are ancient and they are true.  And they can help you to heal yourself and to be in harmony with your world.

Why Angels Don’t Expect “Please”

Your angels are around you, and they are paying attention with all of their love and compassion.  They hear your prayers for guidance and direction.  They hear your requests for help as you meet the struggles of life.  They stand by your side during the times of celebration and celebrate with you.  They stand by you during times of tears, and they cry with you.

We all experience those moments when the presence of the angels is so clear, and then we spend the rest of the time convincing ourselves that we never feel them or hear them.  Miracles happen in our lives, but what we pay most attention to is the long periods of silence that span the time in between.

But, what if those long periods of time in between aren’t just silence?  What if that time of silence is a time of observation?  What if it is a time of them listening to us?

A wise astronomer once “bucked” the conventional wisdom that outer space is a vacuum saying that outer space is filled with an energy that we cannot yet measure.  What if the silence in between is the activities of the angels doing work that we can’t yet perceive?  Or better yet, what if that expanse of silence is the period of the angels saying, I’ve done my work.  Now you do yours.

Spiritual wisdom recognizes a duality of forces – a natural flow between heaven and earth and back again.  The cycle moves and dances symbiotically and even interdependently as one supports and nourishes the other for the good of the whole.

In this vision of the goodness of the whole, there is no space to say “please” do this for me.  The word “please” means to do a favor, which is to make an exception, or to override what is already true.  From a spiritual perspective, allowing for “please” is a recipe for chaos.

However, what if there was a spiritually correct way to say please?  What if there was a way that worked with the natural order of creation?  What if that opportunity was the silent time when we’ve been waiting for the angels to do something else?

Our world changes when the angels do what they do and create miracles.  So, what is a miracle?  The angels commit themselves to a stance.  They commit themselves to a way of being, accepting what is right and true.  Based on that, they act.  They don’t “maybe sort-of” act and hope it’s going to be ok.  They act.  They do what must be done.

The angels don’t come forward to us and say, “I see we are about to get into a devastating car accident that will likely end our life.  May I please intercede on our behalf?”  Remember that our personal angels are our spiritual partners and have mutual investment in this life.

The angel’s “please” comes from the soul agreements made coming into the life.  It stems from a full commitment for the best spiritual growth of the life.  Therefore, to not act, would be to fail in the duties and soul commitment of the angel.

On the other hand, for each one of us, the “please” is the act of vision and courage to first plant the seeds for the solutions or way of being we want to be before asking for help.  The “please” is the demonstration that clearly states “these are the seeds I have planted and to which I am committed to giving life.”

By bringing to action a new set of values, a new commitment to health, a new resolve to kindness, a deeper search for knowledge or whatever the choice, the momentum of your earthly action opens a space in the heavens that can only be met with an equal response.  The tide flows from the earth to the heavens and back to the earth.  The answers may not look exactly as we want them to look, but the answers will come.

There are so many ways to communicate with your angels.  Having a direct voice to voice interaction is a blessing of such depth.  But even when those channels are not as open as desired, we can always find ways get the messages traveling back and forth.  When the silence comes, perhaps it is your turn to do the “talking” with your words, with your actions, and with your heart.

In the One Light,
Rick Vrenios
